Archival Collections
In partnership with Heritage Quay, the archive of the University of Huddersfield, Divergence Press is proud to host a digital archive of contemporary music resources from the physical archives of the British Music Collection (the former archive of the British Music Information Centre), the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, and the Society for the Promotion of New Music, all housed at Heritage Quay.
These materials, which are presented here to the public in digital form for the first time, capture a pivotal strand of activity in contemporary music in Britain in the late 20th century. This digital archive includes:
- Composer magazine, the journal of the Composers’ Guild of Great Britain (1960-87)
- New Notes magazine issues from the 1990s and 2000s from the Society for the Promotion of New Music (spnm)
- Concert programmes and booklets from the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (hcmf//)
The digitisation project has been supported by the Centre for Research in New Music (CeReNeM) through a grant from the University Research Fund, and has been led by Prof Robert Adlington and Dr Colin Frank.
